Low Voltage Pool/Spa Light Transformers

September 13, 2023

High Voltage Pool/Spa Lights (120Volts) are becoming a thing of the past. In the past 15 years, Low Voltage Lighting (12-16 volts) has been taking over the swimming pool industry. Low Voltage Lighting usually comes with color changing lights that sync up with all the lights in the pool and spa, and change colors at set intervals with all lights the same color at the same moment. But they must have a Low Voltage Transformer to operate them. Transformers step down the 120 Volt Residential Power Supply to 12-16 volts. The reason I mention 12-16 volts, is because the farther away the light is from the transformer, the voltage needs to be increased from 12 volts up to 16 volts to accommodate voltage drop from long runs of pool/spa light cables. In the photo you can see 3 beige colored transformers mounted to the wall. These operate the Low Voltage Lighting. You can put 3 lights on 1 transformer. So this particular pool/spa had 9 lights installed.
