This part of the installation of a pool or spa light is of utmost importance for electrical safety. Lights come with cords in various lengths from the manufacturer ranging from 30 ft to 150 ft. The longer the cord, the higher the price. You can order lights with longer cords if necessary as we have installed light cords up to 300 ft, but this is very rare, and the price rises accordingly. The cord that comes attached to the light is sealed from the factory and water cannot penetrate the light fixture. In addition, a #8 sized green copper bonding wire is supplied by us and required to bond to the stainless steel screw inside of the Light Frame (Niche). After this connection is made, it is completely covered with a swimming pool approved blue epoxy so this connection can never corrode or come apart for the life of the pool. Some cities require that the PVC pipe where the cord and green bonding cable enter the Niche be sealed with silicone, but most do not. The photo in this application was in Coppell, Texas, where they do require silicone sealant. In addition, there is always 3-4 ft of cord length coiled up inside the Light Frame (Niche) so the light fixture can be removed from the Niche, pulled from the water and laid in a dry location at the
side of the pool for cleaning or repair.
