Explaining the bonding and grounding of a swimming pool/spa installation is a little difficult to most people including seasoned and experienced electricians. This is one of the reasons why swimming pool electrical is very specialized and detailed electrical installs and requires highly qualified and experienced and State of Texas Licensed Electricians. Swimming Pool Electrical installations have more inspections than and entire new home being built. So many things on a swimming pool need to be seen by an electrical inspector before any of it can be covered or concreted over. The diagram above pretty much explains the Equipotential Bonding Grid of a swimming pool. This is NOT GROUNDING. That is something very different. This is a Bonding Grid designed to work together with Grounding and to systematically protect swimmers from fault currents through GFCI devices operating the electrical components on a swimming pool/spa.
