Outdoor Electrical Enclosure Oxidation

August 7, 2023

This is a typical outdoor electrical enclosure outlet box that is made of aluminum. Most are because a metal box of any kind around a pool with chemicals tends to completely rot. These outdoor enclosures start looking like this after about 15 years and only get worse. Some a lot sooner depending on your location, but in the DFW area, it is about a 15 year process. We were called to repair and replace this outlet and we also replaced the box with a new one and also installed a new in-use cover. Below photo is the finished process using an electrical outlet with the blue letters “WR” on the plug which means Weather Resistant, and the stamped letters “TR”, which you can barely see, and stands for Tamper Resistant. This is required by the National Electrical Code and costs about $2 more than a regular outlet, and well worth it.
