The pool light and junction box for this pool was installed in the 1980’s. It was never installed at the proper height above pool water level and over time more and more gardening mulch was applied until it was finally covered up completely. Finally, the circuit breaker began tripping when the pool light was turned on. We were called to investigate and found the problem listed above. We raised the junction box by extending the conduits, installed a new outdoor box and weatherproof cover. Customers need to understand that the conduit from the light in the pool, all the way to the junction box is filled with water for the life of the pool. There has to be a way to control the water and that is to turn the conduit upward and at least 4 inches above water level. Problem solved, but could have been solved when the original electrical was installed 4 decades ago.
